Woman and two men held in connection with man’s death in NI

Three people have been arrested following the death of an elderly man in Greenisland, Co Antrim last night.

The body of the man, who was in his 70s, was discovered in a house in Station Rd at around 9.30pm.

The woman arrested is aged 29, while a 23-year-old and 24-year-old man are also being questioned by police.

May Beattie, a DUP councillor for the Knockagh area, said that the news had come as a shock to a quiet community.

“Local people are very shocked and saddened to hear of the death in their vicinity,” he said.

“They woke up this morning and were shocked by this sudden death.

“I would appeal to anyone who knows anything to come forward to police.”

Station Road was closed in the early hours of this morning following the discovery and remains closed at present as police and forensic teams examine the scene.

Motorists are being advised the road is closed between the junction of Upper Station Road and School Lane as well as at the junction of Knockfergus Park and Station Road.
