Adele will host “Saturday Night Live” this week. The British singer announced the news on Instagram, but the post also makes it clear that she won’t be performing as the musical guest.
In the index card photo, which is the standard format for “SNL” host/musical guest announcements, the Oct. 24 date card lists Adele as host and H.E.R. as the musical guest. That means that the “Rolling in the Deep” singer will stick to acting on the NBC variety show.
“I’ve always wanted to do it as a stand alone moment, so that I could roll up my sleeves and fully throw myself into it, but the time has never been right,” Adele explained on Instagram. “But if there was ever a time for any of us to jump head first into the deep end with our eyes closed and hope for the best it’s 2020 right?”
With her focus on the comedy and H.E.R. serving as musical guest, it doesn’t seem like the 32-year-old will release new music on “Saturday Night Live.”
Adele hasn’t released a new album since 2015’s “25,” which she considered the end of a trilogy (with “19” and “21” being the first two installments). Though she is working on new music, Vanity Fair reports she wasn’t sure when it would be released. In August, she replied, “I honestly have no idea,” when asked about a release date.
In June, it sounded like she might even wait for the pandemic to be over. “Of course it’s not,” she commented to a fan asking about a new release on social media. “Corona ain’t over. I’m quarantining. Wear a mask and be patient.”
After the “SNL” announcement, however, rumors are swirling that new music will release very soon. Showbiz 411 insists that a new album is coming before Christmas, maybe even as soon as Oct. 30. However, that remains unconfirmed.
In the meantime, Adele will bring the laughs on “SNL” on Oct. 24. R&B star H.E.R. will be the one serenading audiences live from Studio 8H in New York. The show airs live on NBC on Saturday at 11:30 p.m. EDT.
