President-elect Joe Biden’s transition team will get direct access to Operation Warp Speed briefings, the federal government’s efforts to boost coronavirus vaccine development and distribution, according to a report.
The invitation to the meetings comes after Biden’s team said denying their participation could hamper their ability to continue the response once his administration takes office next week, Politico reported on Monday.
Warp Speed briefings encompass not only vaccine distribution, but also therapeutics and manufacturing and supply issues, the report said.
The transition team had been briefed about the meetings but had not directly attended any.
Biden said his administration intends to vaccinate 50 million Americans in its first 100 days of office.
“Three [thousand] to 4,000 people dying a day is just beyond the pale. It’s just wrong. We can do a lot to change it. It’s going to be hard, it’s not going to be easy, but we can get it done,” the former vice president said Monday as he got the second dose of the vaccine.
