Delta bans firearms from DC-bound baggage forward of Biden inauguration – Thebritishjournal

Delta Air Lines will prohibit Washington, D.C.-bound flyers from checking firearms ahead of the inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden, the company said Thursday.

The ban will be in effect Saturday, Jan. 16 to Saturday, Jan. 23, a Delta rep told The Post.

“We’re all on high alert based on the events of the last couple weeks up in Washington,” CEO Ed Bastian told CNBC‘s “Squawk Box.”

“We’re going to not allow anyone to check a firearm into any of the Metro D.C. airports starting this weekend and carrying it through the next week, unless you’re law enforcement and you’re authorized to be carrying one.”

Delta is not the only airline taking additional precautions in the wake of the pro-Trump riot that saw five people die — American Airlines banned alcohol on flights in and out of D.C.

Recent days have seen a number of incidents involving rowdy customers on planes and in airports, including one in which Trump supporters on a Delta flight heckled Utah Sen. Mitt Romney, the lone Republican senator to vote to oust Trump after he was impeached the first time.

Bastian said “99.9 percent” of Delta customers “are really great.”

“I don’t want to overreact,” he said. “I think this is a moment, hopefully, in time, with the outcry around the election results.”
