Ferrari Will Not Remorse Ignoring Lewis Hamilton, Blissful With Charles Leclerc – Thebritishjournal

Lewis Hamilton has constantly been linked to a move to Ferrari, but the Italian team’s chance of luring him to Maranello has now passed after they signed Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz to long-term deals last year.

Ferrari boss Mattia Binotto stressed that the team will not regret ignoring the chance to acquire the services of the seven-time F1 world champion.

The Briton is yet to agree a new deal with Mercedes for the 2021 season, and despite insisting on more than one occasion that he wants to remain in the sport and continue his career with the Silver Arrows.

Moreover, it is unlikely Hamilton will suit up for Ferrari after the prominent automobile and motorsport company has gone from being title challengers to mediocre midfield runners in the span of two seasons.

Binotto believes that they made the right decision in investing its long-term future with Leclerc, who is widely regarded among the top three drivers in Formula One at the moment.

“I don’t think there will be regret because at the end when we took some decisions, we took them thinking they were the right decisions and today we have a fantastic driver like Charles where we invested a lot as Ferrari,” Binotto told Sky Sports.

“I think he’s got a lot of talent. If he’s got the right car, I’m pretty sure he can challenge Lewis Hamilton.”

Despite the seemingly insurmountable odds, Binotto remains optimistic that Leclerc and Sainz’s synergy on the track will help Ferrari regain its championship tradition.

“We’ve made our choices, and I think together with Carlos, we are very strong. I don’t think there will be any regret,” he concluded.
