An Islamic State fighter has executed his own mother before a public audience in the northern Syrian city of Raqqa.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which monitors the war in Syria from London, reported that the shocking act took place on Wednesday. The website also reports that Leena, who was in her late forties, lived in the town of Tabqa, near the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant’s capital Raqqa. She was employed in post office building in the city, which became the spot where the execution reportedly took place.
She expressed her desire to leave ISIS and asked her son to do the same. However, her son reported her to the ISIS, who in turn arrested her and later found her guilty of apostasy or renunciation of a religious faith.
“She was executed under the pretext of ‘inciting her son to leave the Islamic state and escaping together to the outside of Raqqa, and that the Coalition will kill all members of the organisation,” the Observatory reported.
She wanted to escape from the clutches of ISIS with him. It is not clear at the moment if Ali was forcefully given the task of executing his own mother or he chose to do it with his own will.
According to the activist group–Raqqa is Being Slaughtered Silently, Lina was 35. CNN also writes that it has not been able to confirm the news through its own sources.
