Richard Barnett accused of carrying stun gun throughout Capitol riot – Thebritishjournal

The Arkansas man seen lounging at a desk in House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s office was allegedly armed with a stun gun during the Capitol siege, prosecutors said Tuesday.

Richard Barnett, 60, who was photographed relaxing with his feet up on a desk in Pelosi’s office amid the mayhem, was charged with unlawfully entering a restricted area with a lethal weapon, it was revealed at a Tuesday federal court hearing.

Barnett also allegedly stole a letter from Pelosi’s office meant for US Rep. Bill Long (R-Mo.), flashing the envelope to reporters outside the Capitol building.

Last Friday, after footage of Barnett went viral, he surrendered himself voluntarily to FBI agents in Arkansas.

He has been in federal custody since at Washington County Detention Center in Fayetteville, Arkansas, authorities said.

At a scheduled virtual detention hearing this Friday, a judge will decide whether to grant him bond.

Barnett is also charged with disorderly conduct and theft of public property.
